 Frequently Asked Questions

Q.

I'm licensed and provide child care in my home.  Am I eligible for this plan?

A.

Yes.  Eligible child care centers include:

  • Licensed In-Home Family Facilities
  • Nursery Schools
  • Pre-Schools
  • Child Care Centers
  • Kindergartens
  • Project Head Start Centers
  • Summer Special/Before and After Special Needs (Students & Centers)

Q.

Let's say I cover all 50 of my students at the beginning of the year.  The next month, 8 more children enroll in the center.  Will they be covered?

A.

Yes.  We will cover the additional children — at no extra premium —in most situations.  However, if the number of additional children exceeds 50% of the original enrollment, additional premium would be required.

Q.

What if children leave the center during the school year.  Will I receive a refund?

A.

No.  Refunds will not be made for insured who leave the center before policy expiration date.

Q.

Can I select which children I want to cover?

A.

No.  All children (from birth through age 13) must be covered under the plan.

Q.

Most of the children in my care are covered by their parent's insurance plan.  Whose insurance pays if I have them covered as well?

A.

It depends on whether you select primary or excess coverage.  If you select primary coverage, the Student Accident Plan will pay FIRST—then any other insurance that the child has would pay.  If you select excess coverage, the Student Accident Plan will pay after any other insurance the child has.  (Primary coverage is only available for full day programs.)

Q.

Is there a minimum number of children you need to have enrolled?

A.

No — however there is a minimum premium required.  If you select the primary plan, the minimum premium is $250 per coverage period (9 months, 12 months, etc).  If you select the excess plan, the minimum premium is $150 per coverage period.

Q.

Can the teachers be covered?

A.

Yes.  If you want teachers to be covered, then all teachers and supervisors in the center must be covered under the plan.  Other occupations such as full time cooks or maintenance workers are not eligible to be covered.

Q.

My center is only open during the summer.  Can I still purchase this plan?

A.

Yes, we do have a 3-month program available during June, July and August.

Q.

Are there discounts for centers that are NAEYC accredited?

A.

Yes, an automatic 10% premium discount is available if your center is accredited through NAEYC.

Q.

Are there any restrictions on which hospital or providers I use?

A.

No.  Unlike many medical plans, there are no restrictions on medical facilities, providers, ambulance or other emergency services.

Q.

The plan pays up to $25,000 for accidents ... does it cover anything for illnesses?

A.

No.  This is an accident only plan.

Q.

Are injuries to teeth covered?

A.

Dental expenses (up to $500 per tooth) are covered provided the expenses begin within 26 weeks of the date of the accident and must be incurred within 52 weeks of the date of the accident.

Q.

What about field trips ... are the children covered away from the center?

A.

Yes.  Students (and teachers and supervisors, if benefit selected) are covered for accidents while:

  • participating in child care activities
  • traveling with a group in connection with center activities
  • traveling in connection with center activities (only if driven by a licensed driver appointed by the program or center director)
