What
is the Trust for Insuring Educators? (TIE)
Purpose.
The Trust for
Insuring Educators (TIE) was established in June 1973 in cooperation with three
educational associations. Individually, these associations lacked
large numbers of members and, consequently, buying power. TIE made it possible
for member organizations to pool their memberships and create a large enough base
to secure competitive insurance plans and rates.
As of 2000, 60
national associations comprise TIE. The Trust provides each participating
association a no-cost membership benefit. TIE members enjoy mass purchasing
power, association autonomy, and personalized service.
Plans
for Members of TIE Associations.
Affordable insurance options and quality
protection are possible through the group buying power of TIE member
associations.
Some restrictions
may apply to certain plans and not all plans are available to all associations,
in all states or to residents in other countries.

How
the Trust Works.
Each association joining TIE
becomes a voting member or Settlor on an equal basis with the other members as
described in the Trust Agreement. The association agrees that it will not
endorse other plans of insurance which compete with the plans adopted by TIE.
In spite of the size of the Trust
and the number of associations involved, each insured can call FTJ toll-free
from any place in the U.S. and acquire answers to questions they have about
their insurance coverage.
Each member is provided with an
association-specific, descriptive all-coverage brochure. These brochures briefly
describe each insurance coverage offered through TIE and give members an
opportunity to request additional information on available plans. Some suggested
uses for these brochures are:
-
include
them with the new member packets and renewal mailings
-
distribute
them at conventions and other association functions
-
enclose
them with orders for association merchandise
-
insert
them in newsletters or journals
Because
the associations which comprise TIE are national in scope, the insurance plans
adopted by TIE must also be available nationally (subject to approval by the
states) in order to serve all members. All marketing costs are borne by the insurance
companies and administrator.
TIE offers
a wide selection of insurance plans. Each association can select those programs
that are of the greatest interest to its members.
Some
restrictions may apply to certain plans and not all plans are available to all
associations, in all states or to residents in other countries.
To
request additional information about the features of each plan, including
eligibility, premiums, exclusions, limitations and renewal provisions, please
fill out an information
request.
